About RAD Examinations
Dedikated Ballet School offers Royal Academy of Dance examinations for students who wish to take them. Examinations are not compulsory — many students simply enjoy their weekly classes without taking exams. However, for those who want them, exams provide:
- Clear goals to work towards
- Official recognition of achievement
- Experience of performing under formal conditions
- A sense of accomplishment and progression
Examination Levels
The RAD examination system includes:
- Pre-Primary and Primary: Class awards for our youngest dancers
- Grades 1-5: Graded examinations building technique and artistry
- Grades 6-8: More advanced graded examinations
- Vocational Grades: Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2
When Are Exams Held?
Examinations are typically held once or twice per year, depending on when students are ready. We only enter students for examinations when they are fully prepared and confident.
Examination Fees
RAD examination fees are set by the Royal Academy of Dance and are payable separately from class fees. Current fee information is available from the RAD website or on request.
Preparing for Examinations
Examination preparation is incorporated into regular class time. Students are given plenty of notice before exams and will have opportunities to practise in exam conditions.
